Are You Watching the Trend or Are You Becoming the Trend?

After a crazy weekend in the Twitterverse, yes that is a thing, I saw many people distracted by the trending hashtags. What does that mean? Well. there were many who chose to run to social media to spend time debating about the topics. That made me think about how we get distracted by the things that are not moving our vision forward.

When I rebranded in 2016 I hit the ground running with some pretty big goals that included wanting to write and publish 100 books. (Yea it’s pretty extreme) What did that mean for me? That meant that I couldn’t allow anything to distract me, create fear within me or hinder that goal. That is a lot easier said than done. Let’s be honest here…..life doesn’t stop when you have a great idea. In fact, we find that once we say we want to do something it seems like everything shows up to get us off track.

With that being said, I had to create a plan for me to stay focused. Below are the things that I found have helped me when it comes to not getting distracted.

1. Daily Action

A lot of people create a long To-do list that almost never gets completed. We take on way too much and then get really frustrated when things don’t go according to plan. I had to jump off this hamster wheel by setting daily action steps. Times when I do work for my clients and time when I work on my own material. Being deliberate is the key to making your daily action a success.

Don’t overwhelm yourself by making a two-mile to-do list. (Especially for those of you still working a fulltime job and building a business) Give yourself some grace by being realistic about what you can achieve. This is also a great way to see what you can outsource or delegate to others.

2. Write Out Goals

How many people still keep all their ideas in their head with their grocery list? You may be the one that writes things down on little slips of paper only to lose the paper. lol I have done both of those but it wasn’t until I started writing things down that things began to change. I was able to keep an accurate tally of what I was completing.

When writing out your goals you allow yourself to determine if those goals are realistic, what help you may need and create a timeline. I found that there are people who put some very unnecessary tasks on their list because they saw someone else do it. We get baited into thinking that we need everything but we can actually be successful with some key essential things.

3. Celebrate Wins

People are at the opposite ends of the spectrum with this one. Some celebrate everything while others don’t take no time to celebrate the accomplishments they have made. All work and no play or all play and little work have become common. I’m sure you can see how both of these can lead to disastrous results in your business.

How you celebrate will not be as important as the fact that you are celebrating. (As long as it’s legal……yes I had to add that) There is part of us that loves to celebrate even if we aren’t a big party person. It boosts moral by showing us that our had work, late nights and interesting days are paying off.

4. Invest in Yourself

This one is always an area where people will find a jet ski, skateboard or rocket ship to follow what’s trending. 🤦🏾‍♀️ Don’t believe me? Go count how many free webinars, tip sheets and ebooks you have that you’ve never taken a second look at. Don’t worry…I’ll wait.

When it comes to investing in yourself….you have to know what’s going to work best for you. The current trend may be bike riding but a detox bath may work best for you. It’s a matter of taking the time to evaluate what best suits your lifestyle, your business, your family etc.

5. Accountability

Despite the popularity of the term “Solopreneur” it really does take a team to excel to higher levels of success. Part of the reason is because other people bring resources to the table but a big reason is the accountability that comes with it. Yes having a team means you have to hold yourself and them accountable. Real policies and procedures need to be in place………….real checks and balances.

People always want to shy away from accountability. Something makes us cringe when we think about someone watching over our shoulder. This can be turned into fuel for your success. Determine that you will go above the basic requirements and beyond the status quo. Accountability allows you to measure your progress.

So are you watching the trend or becoming the trend?

Are you someone that easily gets distracted? How you stay focused on the task ahead?

This is a great post. Reflecting on this, I think I can be easily distracted and i’ve noticed that when i make extensive to do lists it doesn’t help me keep focused either. If i make small attainable daily goals i think i’tll be more effective and I will be doing things this purpose! thanks for sharing x
