“Holy Hands… and Holy Rocks?”

“But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.”
— Matthew 5:44 (NIV)

When Your Friends Have Peter Tendencies 😅🪨

Some days, your faith walk feels like peace, prayer, and praise hands.
Other days… it feels like Peter in the garden, reaching for a sword (or a rock).
😂

I recently had a hilarious moment with my friends while we were painting scriptures on rocks. There we were, markers in hand, quietly writing verses like “The Lord is my rock and my fortress”… and then someone cracked a joke about throwing the rock after you write the scripture on it.

We all laughed—maybe a little too hard.

Because let’s be honest: grace is a journey. Some of us are still learning to trade the impulse to “clap back” for the wisdom to “pray back.” And in this season of protecting peace, we’re reminded that God can use even our Peter tendencies for His glory—if we’re willing to let Him soften us.

This funny moment wasn’t just about rocks and laughter—it was a visual reminder that God is still writing scripture on our hearts, even when our hands aren’t always innocent. The goal is not perfection. It’s progress. It’s the willingness to pause, reflect, and let the Word shape how we respond.

So the next time you feel that old urge to “throw hands,” pause and think:
What would it look like to throw love instead? To speak life instead?

And if you’re still tempted to reach for that rock…
at least make sure it’s got scripture on it first.

🔁 Reflection Questions:

  1. When was the last time you had a “Peter moment” in real life?
  2. What scripture helps you pause and reflect before reacting?
  3. How can you support friends who are growing spiritually—even when they’re still a little spicy?

🙏🏾 Prayer:

Lord, thank You for loving me through my Peter moments. Help me to respond with peace, grace, and discernment—even when I feel provoked. Continue to write Your Word on my heart so that my hands and my responses reflect You. Amen.
