A Few Reasons Why You Aren’t Getting Booked
I have heard from hundreds of speakers on The #SpeakEasy Podcast, who share their stories on the #OurVoiceMatters Blog and even clients who say that they aren’t getting the speaking opportunities they really want. It’s odd because there are so many opportunities available for speakers. That growing concern has gone from a whisper to a loud roar as events are being canceled across the world due to covid-19.
My major question to each person I have spoken to is this: “Are you visible?”
Simple question but many don’t have a clear understanding of what being visible means. It has taken on a different meaning even now as we make adjustments to quarantine and homeschooling as a temporary normal.
Another reason many aren’t getting booked is that you don’t know how to make your content relevant. Knowing how to make your content relevant requires a speaker to do a bit of research. That can include checking what’s trending across social media or being involved in conversations with family and friends. Be careful that you don’t get stuck scrolling across tho. You can even set aside time to just do research on the topic that you discuss.
Becoming and staying visible can be broken down into a few tips.
I know that the world is on a strange tilt at the moment but being consistent in your content is important. Many will be shifting during this time to catch the wave but then they lose touch with the audience they have already begun to engage. There are many who will want to jump onto the bandwagon of selling something they know “a little” about instead of being the expert in their industry.
Be the expert…remain consistent!! It matters as things continue to shift this will be what makes you stand out in the speaking industry.
During a recent training in a group of over 24,000 women in business, I gave a simple tip. Repurpose what you already have to gain maximum exposure. From podcast interviews to magazine features, now is the time for you to share it all. People are looking, desperately for motivational content and your 2-10 minute clip can inspire someone to reach out to you.
Another thing to remember when you repurpose content is that most of it is evergreen. It doesn’t go away. That means that the interview you did a year ago is still relevant and able to make an impact. It also allows you to show people your speaking experience. The same can be done with speaker reels from previous events.

- It depends on the industry. Corporate is usually the VP of Marketing or Sales. Events are usually event planners or might be a committee.
